As the sunny days are behind us, it’s time to explore and try new fragrances for the upcoming colder months. As a floral fragrance gal, I rotate between these scents all year round: Dior’s Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, Dolce & Gabbana’s L’imperatrice, Atelier Cologne’s Clémentine California, and Jo Malone’s English Pear and Freesia. But now that the colder months are here to stay, I wanted to venture out and try to find fall scents that are not too musky and vanilla-y. After testing over ten fragrances, here are my top five fall fragrances for those who love fresh and floral scents!
Maison Margiela: ‘REPLICA’ Beach Walk

Key Notes: Bergamot, Heliotrope, Coconut Milk
What It Smells Like: Infused with citrus fruit and the powdery scent of the heliotrope flower, the fragrance is slightly lemony with a touch of depth. It’s almost like a whiff of the ocean but with the heaviness of coconut milk. Imagine the ocean, but the water is replaced with a citrus+coconut+floral concoction. I know, not exactly an appealing description. But I promise it smells divine.
Why I Love It: You might think it’s strange to choose a summery scent for fall, but hear me out! The fragrance is originally inspired by summer and the scent of salty air with footprints in the sand. But when mixed with my body’s chemistry, I find that this scent turns a little deeper and more aromatic by the end of the day. Perhaps it’s because I’m missing the warm weather, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful musky scent too! If you’re also someone who’s thinking about the summer season, I’d say this is the perfect fragrance for the chilly transitional period!
Chloé: Naturelle Eau de Parfum

Key Notes: Cedrat Essence, Organic Rose Essence, Mimosa Absolute
What It Smells Like: If a masculine rose is a scent, this is what I’d expect it to be! The rose isn’t too overwhelming, and the mimosa highlight adds a warm, homeyness to the overall smell! To top it off, the cedrat brings in a delightful crisp citrus twist and leaves behind a clean finish. I’d say the scent isn’t too musky, and despite the light summer-y notes, it leaves a more sophisticated feel than a typical floral fragrance.
Why I Love It: If adulting was a smell, this is what I would envision it to be; this scent reminds me so much of clean laundry! The scent has a slight muskiness and doesn’t seem too feminine. I love how deep the rose scent is, and with the highlights of the different notes, it smells wholesome. I think it’s perfect for all the mature corporate girlies out there – this is the perfect fall rose scent!
Gucci: Flora Gorgeous Jasmine Eau de Parfum

Key Notes: Mandarin Essence, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Sandalwood
What It Smells Like: Gucci describes this as a #FloraFantasy, and I completely agree. This is the one for you if you want a fruity floral scent! The mandarin essence makes the scent sweet, citrusy, and a bit more youthful than the Chloé one! I also love the choice of sandalwood as one of the highlights. Different from other woody scents, sandalwood adds a warm floral addition to the scent.
Why I Love It: This scent reminds me of a sunny fall day. The scent is fruity yet floral, light yet musky – just the perfect balance. I love how youthful the scent is, making me feel feminine. This is the perfect fragrance if you love a true floral scent with a tiny drop of woodiness. If you enjoy floral+fruity scents, this is the one for this time of year!
Tom Ford: Black Orchid Eau de Parfum

Key Notes: Black Orchid, Black Truffle, Patchouli
What It Smells Like: If you like a fragrance with more depth, this fragrance is all about that life! There’s a deep musk scent from the black truffle with a sweet floral twist at the end. The black truffle helps the fragrance feel deep and musky, almost exotic. When you smell this scent, you can tell it is for special occasions or evenings. The patchouli adds an earthy and spicy scent with a slightly sweet aroma.
Why I Love It: When I need something for an evening out with my friends, this is the scent I reach for! Especially for this time of year, this fragrance keeps me cozy and warm. I love how deep and aromatic this scent is and the packaging of this fragrance matches the scent spot on. It smells extremely rich and warm but with a slightly sweet floral scent. I am obsessed with how this scent is so luxurious and elegant, purely sophisticated!

What It Smells Like: If Abercrombie & Fitch had a more grown-up and adult version of their signature store smell, this is what I would imagine it to be. I know, it’s not as appealing as you would expect. But! This scent does settle and morph into the skin well. The orange flower gives the scent a feminine and floral touch, while the vanilla stands out and warms up the fragrance. It almost has a burnt bourbon scent with a touch of floral!
Why I Love It: I know this scent may not be widely sought after, especially for those who like floral/fresh scents. However, I love that this scent is perfect for the fall season! It smells extremely warm and spicy, the perfect balance with a hint of floral. The scent is an ode to a crackling fire, cozy and deep. If you like a more unisex and genderless scent, this is perfect!
