I Woke Up Like This: Easy Daily Makeup Routine ft. Merit Beauty
Featured Image by Angela Zhong

Gone are the days of spending hours in front of a mirror to put together a full glamour look. As I get older, I realize how amazing an easy daily makeup routine can be. Not only do I look put together, but the natural look makes me feel effortlessly chic – almost as if I woke up like this! That’s why I want to share with you all my essentials for creating that everyday makeup look (and trust me, it doesn’t even take thirty minutes to get it done)!

A quick disclaimer: the brand gifted me a few of their products, and I am not obligated to write a review. But I decided to go ahead and write one anyway to share the love!

1Covering Imperfections

MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick

My Shade: Bone

Application:

Using The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick, I like to cover any acne spots, hyperpigmentation, and areas where there’s uneven skin tone. I typically use one swipe on my nose, a swipe on either side of my cheeks, and one dot on my forehead and chin. I pat the product on my skin using my fingers or a sponge.

Why I Love This:

A simple foundation or concealer stick is the best base for an easy daily makeup routine. This product gives my skin a glowing finish while providing excellent coverage! I love the convenience of the stick, and I don’t have to worry about any foundation spilling in my makeup bag! Another reason why I love this product compared to other foundations is because you can purchase a lighter or darker shade and use it for contouring or highlighting certain areas. For example, I purchase the darker shades as a cream contour stick!

Quick Tip! If you want an overall BB cream finish or look, you can take a tiny chunk of this product and mix it with your moisturizer. This can create a complexion cream to help even out the overall skin tone and cover any concerns on the skin.

2Bronze Goddess Transformation

MERIT Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer

My Shade: Seine

Application:

Right after setting a good base, I love to go in with a bronzer to bring back the warmth to my skin. I swipe the bronzer onto my outer temples and my jaw area. I also like to bring the bronzer down my neck to give a deeper shadow to minimize the look of a double chin. An important note is that I use the same sponge as my previous step to blend the bronzer with my complexion stick.

Why I Love This:

My skin is fair, so you expect me to use lighter bronzers. However, I prefer to use darker bronzers on my skin so that my skin doesn’t look awkwardly muddy or orange. That’s why the shade Seine is the perfect dark bronze color for me; I love how it gives my skin a sun-kissed glow!

Quick Tip! I also love using the bronzer to warm my eyelids and under-eye area. To give my eyes a slight three-dimensional effect, I use this bronzer like a cream eye shadow.

3Blush for a Flush of Color

MERIT Flush Balm Cream Blush

My Shade: Cheeky

Application:

Next up is blush, my favorite step! In terms of application, I’m pretty generous with my blush! I swipe on the blush on my entire cheekbone and cheek area, even bringing it onto the outer sides of my nose. Then, with my fingers, I pat the product and blend in. I also like to get a little bit of the blush on my fingers and pat on my eyelids to give my eyes a slightly pink look.

Why I Love This:

I’m obsessed with the shade Cheeky. It’s a cool pink, which is perfect for those with fair to medium skin. It leaves my cheeks looking flushed and glowing without being too apparent; it’s the perfect blush for an easy daily makeup routine! For some stick type blushes, it can be difficult to control how much applies to the skin. However, this product is sheer and gives the perfect amount of color payoff without being too strong!

4Highlight for a Dewy Finish

MERIT Day Glow Dewy Highlighting Balm

My Shade: Cava

Application:

Time to highlight and shine like the sun! My favorite shade for my cheeks is Cava, but I love rotating all the shades and using them on my eyes! I like to use the highlighter under my eyebrows, eyelids, inner corner of my eyes, and lower lash line. Then, with a blending brush or my fingers, I blend the product to help make it look more natural. On my face, I use the highlighter on my forehead, the bridge of my nose, the tip of my nose, my cheekbones, and the flat center of my chin. Using the highlighter on these areas allows for a more three-dimensional look, which is perfect for anyone with flat features!

Why I Love This:

I tested these highlighters at Sephora, and I instantly fell in love! The products have amazing color payoff and feels super creamy and luxurious. I was expecting the highlighter to feel chunky or gritty, but thankfully, it feels and looks so natural and smooth.

5Simple, Natural Eyes

Merit Beauty Eye Duo

My Shade (Brows): Black Brown

Application:

By now, my eyes are already perfected with the cream products. However, I like to use the Brow 1980 Volumizing Eyebrow Pomade Gel and the Clean Lash Lengthening Tubing Mascara for an extra pop.

I use Black Brown for the brow product shade because my hair is closer to black brown than brown. First, I sweep the brow gel up and then swipe it over to make them look more natural. As for the mascara, I place them on the ends of my eyelashes just to accentuate my lashes rather than lengthening them or volumizing them.

Why I Love This:

Overall, I love how the brow gel shapes and grooms my brows without using multiple products! Best of all, I love how the mascara removes easily with my typical oil cleanser, and I don’t need to use a separate eye makeup remover. One thing to note is that this mascara does transfer, so I recommend using either a lash primer or face powder on your under eyes to minimize the transfer.

6Lip of Choice

Merit Lip Duo

My Shade (Lipstick): Baby

My Shade (Lip Oil): Sangria

Application:

Last but not least, the lips! I use the Signature Lip Lightweight Lipstick in the shade Baby to give a nude base to my lips. Then I top off with the Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil in the shade Sangria. I like to use the shade Sangria near the inner part of my lips and then spread it outwards for a natural gradient look. This is the perfect lip combo for an easy daily makeup routine!

Why I Love This:

I love all of Merit’s lip products, especially their lipsticks and lip oils. While my personal favorite is their lip oil, I love using their lipsticks as a base to mute the original color of the lips. Then, to keep my lips hydrated, I like to use and reapply the lip oil throughout the day! The lipstick isn’t drying at all, and the lip oils leave my lips feeling incredibly moisturized, unlike other lip oils that just sit on top.
