2023 is finally here! What better way to celebrate the new year than setting some skincare-related resolutions? Here are some skincare habits to follow in 2023 for healthier skin!
Keep It Simple
A cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are essential for every skincare routine. I love to reiterate the importance of keeping things simple. Sure, it’s nice to add a few exfoliators and retinoids here and there. However, over-exfoliating can compromise the skin barrier and irritate it. Keeping your routine short and simple will help you to maintain a healthy skin barrier and give your skin ample time to take a break from additional products.
Put That Makeup Wipe Down!
Makeup wipes tend to be harsh on the skin and cause abrasive rubbing. Instead of using makeup wipes, try double cleansing. Double cleansing includes an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm as your first cleansing step to break down all traces of makeup. Then, once you remove the oil cleanser with warm water, you can follow up with a water-based cleanser as the second step to remove any remaining impurities. This method is a more thorough and gentle form of cleansing, excellent for all skin types and concerns!
The Most Important Skincare Habit Is SPF
Rain or shine, sunscreen should always be the last step of your morning skincare routine. That’s because SPF is crucial for sun protection and avoiding sun damage. Skipping sunscreen can cause your dark spots to worsen and can cause aging. It helps to use a moisturizer with SPF or makeup with SPF, but it should never replace an actual sunscreen.
Don’t Skip The Neck
The neck is an area that can be the first to show signs of premature aging. It’s a delicate area, so we don’t recommend using retinol, AHAs, and BHAs at high doses. Instead, you can keep your neck hydrated and regularly apply sunscreen throughout the day. You can bring your products down to your neck when applying your skincare routine to give it some love!
Inner Health Is Just As Important
As the saying goes, whatever you feel inside is how you look on the outside! When you’re feeding your body nutritious meals and keeping your inner gut healthy, your skin will naturally show it! Nourish your body with nutrient-rich foods, including leafy greens, whole grains, and plenty of water for your skin to reflect your inner well-being.
