Struggling to find the perfect skincare routine? Well, instead of a 12-step routine, Covey Skincare says you can do with three. Supermodel, Emily DiDonato, launched the new “skinimal” brand with her best friend and Googler, Christina Uribe, to challenge the notion that great skin can only be achieved with more products.

How did it all begin?

When the two besties shared a trip to Iceland, they immediately bonded – not by the beautiful glacial landscapes but by their love for skincare. While they were excitedly swapping product recommendations, they’re struck with the question, “do I really need all of these products and can they be used together?” Not to mention how time-consuming it was to apply so many products twice a day, every day. Part of the challenge was of how skincare information is shared and consumed in a way that leaves people more confused than before they delved into it. With this in mind, DiDonato and Uribe dedicated three years of research and collaborated with professional dermatologists to create a three-step, no-frills skincare routine.

Why “Covey”?

When DiDonato and Uribe were brainstorming for brand name ideas, they wanted to find something that described their strong friendship. They came across the term “Covey,” which means “a small flock of birds,” and instantly fell in love. Covey represented support, community, and togetherness, with an aim to inspire their customers to feel the same when using their products.

What’s in the line?

Covey Skincare is complete with three products: a cleanser, a vitamin c serum, and a moisturizer. With the help of Consulting Dermatologist Dr. Julie Russak, each product is formulated without fragrance, sulfate, synthetic dye, silicone, gluten, essential oils, and phthalate. The brand is cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and dermatologist-approved.

First Of All Cleanser

Covey First Of All Cleanser

What’s the most important skincare step you can’t live without? After our one-week no skincare challenge, Felicia quickly realized the importance of a cleanser. For Covey co-founder Emily DiDonato, it’s likewise a skincare essential to remove all the makeup and gunk after her photoshoots. And thanks to this gel-to-foam cleanser, we can now cleanse and remove makeup in one step. Bye-bye, double cleansing! It’s gentle and doesn’t sting your eyes for an enjoyable cleanse that leaves your skin feeling clean and rejuvenated.

Next Up Vitamin C Serum

Covey Next Up Vitamin C Serum

Having a vitamin C serum as the second step makes a lot of sense for a routine that aims to do the most in the least amount of steps. Vitamin C is a well-researched collagen-stimulating and discoloration-busting skin multi-tasker! Yes, it’s known to irritate skin and has a short shelf life due to its unstable nature. But! Covey’s serum uses 15% Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, a stabler and gentler form of vitamin C, alongside Vitamin E and grapeseed extract for extra glowy skin, dispensed in a lightweight milky texture.

Last But Not Least Moisturizer

Covey Last But Not Least Moisturizer

Last but certainly not least (hah!), this moisturizer completes the routine with a lightweight and nourishing finish. This cream may look tiny, but a little certainly goes a long way. It’s formulated with squalane, sodium hyaluronate, and glycerin to protect and hydrate your skin. Best of all, it doesn’t pill when you reach your sunscreen step!

Our Honest Review

First Impressions

Let’s say I didn’t know I needed Covey Skincare until I found it, and now I’m head over heels! I was pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail and how thoughtful everything is. The gentle formulations are already a huge plus, but to see each step given appropriate packaging and a name telling you the order to apply? Genius! The routine itself is solid and cuts out any confusion, while the brand’s focus on attaining healthy skin over perfect and flawless skin is the cherry on top!

On Experience

A quick disclaimer: the brand gifted me the products and I am under no obligation to write a review. But I decided to go ahead and write one anyway to share the love!

It’s been a week since I started using Covey’s entire line. I’m thoroughly enjoying the simplicity of the three-step routine, which is incredibly convenient, and the products are super gentle. My skin is currently suffering from another hormonal bout of painful chin pimples, so I’m surprised to see how easily my skin handled the newcomers without stinging or irritation. I’ll continue using the products and provide a more in-depth review soon. But for now, consider this gal part of the flock!
