As seasons change, your skin is also changing. Just like you start transitioning from your nice summer dresses to cozy sweaters to protect your body, you’ll need a different routine to keep your skin barrier healthy.

When we walk around the cold and dry weather, our skin becomes more prone to irritation, itchiness and dryness. This is because moisture is evaporating from our skin and this weakens our skin barrier. This is also known as transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

The thing with TEWL is that it already happens to us on a daily basis. When the air around us is moist or humid, our skin releases less water and holds more moisture. On the flip-side, dry and cold temperatures increases water loss from our skin. Makes sense?

You might be thinking, this doesn’t sound so different from what we’re normally doing, right? It really isn’t! But there are a few tweaks that you can make to help protect your skin…by keeping it well moisturized during the cold winter months!

With all that in mind, here are some new K-Beauty brands that can help keep your skin barrier healthy!

Bring Green Nature Market

What Is It?

If you’re into K-beauty brands like Skinfood, I’m From, and Papa Recipe, Bring Green might be right up your alley. Just like a farmer’s market, the brand’s products showcase a variety of antioxidant rich and skin soothing greens to repair irritated skin.

Star Ingredients

Artemisia

Their Artemisia line, which contains Artemisia Capillaris Thunberg extract, is one of their popular lines. This ingredient is part of the mugwort family and has skin soothing, antioxidant rich, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Carrot

Bring Green also uses carrots for their skin brightening line. Carrots are rich in beta-carotenes which are high in antioxidants and help with cell turnover for a soft and radiant looking skin.

Botanic Heal boH

What Is It?

When you’re facing multiple skin crises at once and your skincare is just too complicated, what should you do? This is what the brand thought of when it started.  Botanic Heal boH focuses on using plant based skin soothing ingredients to calm irritation and rebuild the skin barrier from the inside out.

Star Ingredients

Vitamins

Vitamins A, B, C and E are common skincare ingredients for maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin A works to even out skin texture, while B and C work to brighten skin tone and vitamin E softens the skin.

Panthenol

Among the vitamins used, vitamin B5 or panthenol is one of those ingredients that can help the skin. Panthenol works to improve hydration, reduce itching and inflammation, and speed up wound healing.

Probiotic enzymes and peptides

Probiotic enzymes work to strengthen the skin barrier while peptides reach deep under the skin’s surface and stimulate collagen production.

Shingmulnara

What Is It?

When it comes to sustainable plant-based skincare brands, you can add Shingmulnara to the list! This brand believes that investing less on packaging and more in quality ingredients help make it stand out.

Star Ingredients

Jeju Sparkling Water

Apparently there’s not much information on Jeju sparkling water in general (by the way, Jeju is a small island in South Korea), but there are articles talking about using carbonated water in your routine. Ideally, the use of sparkling water acts as an exfoliant which can externally stimulate your pores to release all the gunk from within. Afterwards, you’re left with brighter and cleaner looking skin. By going by this principle, this line might bring similar results…without the need to dunk your head in a pot of sparkling water.

Tea Tree, Cica & Salicylic Acid

With problematic skin comes tea tree, cica, and salicylic acid. All three ingredients have amazing antibacterial properties. Tea tree and salicylic acid work to kill acne causing bacteria from within the pores. Cica, or centella asiatica, works to soothe and calm inflamed skin.

Charcoal & Aloe

From their mask line, there are ingredients such as tea tree, charcoal, and aloe. Charcoal works to purify the skin by absorbing excess sebum from within the pores. Aloe works to calm and cool down the skin, which might be ideal for irritated or inflamed skin.

Faith in Face

What Is It?

I have to admit: this brand’s pretty-in-pink packaging looks VERY similar to Soap & Glory’s product packaging but I see the appeal. This nostalgic brand is widely popular in Korea for their hydrogel face masks. This texture perfectly fits the contour of your face and also instantly cooling as soon as you place it on. Each face mask has different active ingredients and different materials to suit different skin concerns and needs. Also, if you want to go the bougie-but-not-so-bougie route, there’s a gold foil mask and a mask infused with pearl. Sounds fancy~

Star Ingredients

Sodium Hyaluronate & Sodium PCA

For masks made of hydrogel, having sodium hyaluronate and sodium PCA are excellent ingredients. They not only keep the skin hydrated but sodium PCA helps to lock all that good moisture in for a healthy skin barrier.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a mild BHA exfoliant which can help shed the skin of excess dead skin cells. It also works to even out dull skin tone for a brighter looking complexion.

Aloe & Green Tea

These ingredients work as powerful skin soothing ingredients to help calm inflammation. While aloe delivers hydration, green tea is rich in antioxidants to help fight free radical damage.

If you’re looking for gentle but effective cleansers that contains skin soothing and skin barrier repairing ingredients, this brand might be for you! From cleansing oils to water to lip and eye remover, this entire range are specially formulated to gently remove all impurities without stripping your moisture barrier.

Star Ingredients

Hyaluronic Acid

The brand includes low molecular hyaluronic acid in their cleansing water to retain moisture and leave skin supple and hydrated. Because of this ingredient, the brand’s products are less likely to leave the skin feeling stripped after cleansing.

Moringa Seed Extract

Throughout the products in this range, this ingredient shines as one of the staple ingredients in the line. Moringa seed extract contains vitamin A to help stimulate collagen growth in the skin, vitamin C to even out skin texture, and vitamin E to soften skin. It’s also a great ingredient to moisturize the skin due to its high concentration of linoleic and oleic acids.
